Oxford Street Traffic Free Day = Marylebone Bus Park !

Oxford Street Traffic Free Day = Marylebone Bus Park !

Part of Oxford Street was closed recently for “car free day” for Oxford Street, which in fact lasted for a whole weekend- with the usual predictable result for Marylebone - who is the Mayor kidding when he says this will improve air quality? The Mayor wants to close Oxford Street totally by 2018 so is this the future for Marylebone's Low Emission Neighbourhood? Lobby the Mayor about this before it is to late. Baker Street Two-way Scheme - Next Steps

Baker Street Two-way Scheme - Next Steps
Westminster City Council has given approval for the Baker Street Two-way Scheme to go to detailed design. There will be a further public consultation on parking and loading proposals which are being drawn up. Following the second consultation on the scheme there is also a plan to move the proposed cycle lanes from Gloucester Place, north of Marylebone Road, to Melcombe Street, Glentworth Street and Balcombe Street. Further details can be found in the letter below and the links within.

I would like to thank all those who have contributed to the second round of public consultation earlier this year for the Baker Street and Gloucester Place Two Way project, through which we sought views on the proposed changes to the initial designs that were consulted on in 2015.

We are hugely grateful to those that have taken part in this second public consultation, with over 500 responses received on a range of topics including perceived traffic congestion, impact on residential streets, air quality and the proposed cycling facilities. The results of this second public consultation are presented in full in our response report.

Harewood Avenue and Enford Street Cycle Route

We are extremely concerned that Transport for London has decided to go ahead with plans to alter Harewood Avenue and Enford Street to accommodate additional cycle lanes. They have taken no account of strong objections from the Association, the St Marylebone Society and others, questioning aspects of the proposals on grounds of safety for pedestrians, children at the primary school in Enford Street and, indeed, for cyclists themselves. Enford Street is far too narrow to accommodate one traffic la...

Friday & Saturday Night Tube starts on the Central & Victoria Lines
The first Night Tube services will launch on the Central and Victoria lines on Friday 19 August, with services on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines following later this year. The Night Tube will offer a 24-hour service on Fridays and Saturdays nights only. Locally this could impact areas around Oxford Circus, Bond Street, Marble Arch stations and in due course Baker Street (Jubilee Line). We are keen to hear from you if you experience an increase in anti-social behaviour or an increase ...

Oxford Street Pedestrianisation - Update

The Marylebone Association has long-standing concerns over air quality in our area. Media attention has focused on Marylebone Road and Oxford Street but, in truth, the whole of Marylebone suffers from dangerous and unacceptable levels of air pollution. We therefore welcome Mayor Sadiq Khan's approach of extending the proposed Ultra Low Emission Zone to the North and South Circular Roads and to bring forward its implementation to 2019 from 2020. These moves together with other initiatives to reduc...
